Tropfest from the Tailgate
Remember the drive-in? Back up the ute or station wagon, drop the tailgate and take in a film in the balmy outdoors.
This year, as the 26th Tropfest took over Parramatta Park in Sydney, that’s exactly what Holden offered as part of its sponsorship of the iconic short film festival.
As official vehicle partner, Holden not only supplied a new Equinox LTZ as part of the winner’s package, but also offered chauffer services and an exclusive “tailgate seating” area with a prime view of the action.
Founded by actor and film director John Polson in 1993, Tropfest has grown from asmall screening of shorts for family and friends, at Sydney’s Tropicana Café, into the largest short film festival in the world.
Every year thousands of budding film makers take up the challenge to create a new work of less than seven minutes that somewhere includes a reference to the Tropfest Signature Item. This year it was a rose.
The entries are then trimmed down to 16 finalists whose films are all screened at the annual outdoor event in front of tens of thousands of fans. The winning film buff taking home $10,000 in cash, a trip to LA to meet industry pros and this year, a brand new Holden Equinox LTZ.
With a choice of turbo petrol and diesel engines and the option of all-wheel drive, the Equinox LTZ SUV has plenty of power and traction to get to all the best film locations. A large 846-litre boot capacity offers enough space for film gear with easy access via the hands-free power tailgate There’s also enough space inside for the driver and four crew to travel in comfort.
The finalists in Tropfest 26 and Trop Jr was screened live and broadcasted on February 17 at Parramatta Park.
